An unexpected twist into the already exciting 250 class of the 2023 AMA Pro Motocross Championship. While salvaging solid points after a huge first-turn incident last weekend, Hunter Lawrence experienced heartache as his Team Honda HRC CRF250R expired with just over a lap to go in moto one.

Dungy and Jet’s approach are much more admirable, but the frustration of your bike expiring on the last lap must be great. I’d excuse Hunters pretty minor flaw in this area. Hopefully, when he’s calmed down slightly, he continues to be pleasant and appreciative towards the team (How he comes across). 

I have a bigger issue with guys that slag the bike/team long after the race, when they have had time to think about what they are saying/doing. The opposite of the current Cooper Webb/KTM situation, where both sides are acting respectfully.

People have been known to “Ghost Ride” their bikes over the finish line when winning a big (first Smile ) race. That action usually goes down as “legendary”. And the team probably don’t mind replacing a clutch lever.

(The “rev limit” celebrations offend my mechanical sympathy - but again: it’s an emotional time.,)

That kid has a history of disrespecting his equipment(I'm talking about him throwing the bike on the ground and walking away), and in turn disrespecting the HRC mechanics. I can remember 2-3 other times when he's simply chucked his bike to the ground-either he was pissed at it for whatever reason, or his brother won a race and Hunter felt that warranted him damaging his own bike

He obviously is either oblivious or simply doesn't care that every time he does this he's causing his mechanics extra work. In this case the HRC mechanics are gonna have very limited time to do a MAJOR repair on his bike to get it ready for the 2nd moto, and dropping the thing on the ground can easily break levers, bend bars, twist front-ends, which does nothing but cause those guys more work-work they shouldn't need to be doing.  I remember his brother being in the same situation last year- catastrophic engine failure during a race- and not only did he NOT chuck his bike to the ground and walk away, he knew the timer had started so he started pushing his bike back to the pits on his own. Ironically it was the Showa tech that showed up first in both cases, but in Hunter's case he had to pick the bike up and push it back on his own, while last year Jett simply moved to the back of the bike and continued pushing

If I’m Honda I’m bringing a high pressure detailing canister to the hot pits and having him pit toward the end of the race to spray the dirt out of the radiators.

id rather finish 5th from a pit stop then last from a failure
